Manitoba Conservation officers now have new powers thanks to the Conservation Officer Act.
The act, which has recently taken effect, will give officers the same powers as peace officers.
The Conservation Officer Act also sets out training and qualification requirements and establishes a formal complaints process.
Since the 1940s, conservation officers have enforced laws related to wildlife, forestry, parks, and Crown lands including catching poachers, conducting investigations, and battling wildfires.
