Fire crews spent Saturday night and much of Sunday working to contain a big barn fire in Oakbank.

Bright neon orange flames and smoke spread upwards into the night sky as fire crews fought the blaze.

From a distance, motorists could see thick black smoke coming from the barn and shop fully engulfed in fire.

Investigators believe there is extensive damage to the structure.

RCMP say the number of people who came out to see the flames became a safety concern. Officers from three nearby units came to help direct traffic.

No word on injuries or what caused the fire, but police say initial information suggests the fire is not suspicious.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is also assisting with the investigation.
