NHL player Mike Richards is scheduled to appear in Emerson Provincial Court Thursday for alleged drug charges.
Emerson RCMP say Richards was stopped at the Canada-U.S. border crossing on June 17, 2015 after a controlled substance was found in his possession.
Border officials turned the matter over to RCMP, who arrested the 30-year-old Kenora-native.
Richards was charged with the possession of a controlled substance.
Richards has previously played for the Philadelphia Flyers and more recently the LA Kings.
Following his arrest, the LA Kings parted ways with Richards, citing a ‘material breach’ of his contract.
The NHL Players’ Association has filed a grievance on his behalf, but Richards is technically a free agent for now.
