Obby Khan wins Tory nomination for Manitoba by-election
The provincial Conservative Party has selected a candidate for the Fort Whyte by-election.
Obby Khan, a former pro football player, won the Tory nomination for the riding.
“I’m very honoured that the members in Fort Whyte put their trust in me to represent our party,” said Obby Khan, PC Candidate for Fort Whyte. “Manitobans want a government that is focused on results and moving our province forward, and that’s what I will help deliver on behalf of Fort Whyte constituents.”
Melanie Maher, a recent federal candidate in Winnipeg South, and optometrist Dr. Navroop Warriach were the other candidates vying for the spot.
“Obby is a fantastic candidate and a strong community leader. I’d also like to thank all three candidates, their families and their supporters who ran for nomination and for believing in our party and our movement,” said Heather Stefanson, Leader of the PC Party of Manitoba.
The riding was left vacant after former Premier Brian Pallister resigned his seat in October.
Khan joins Liberal candidate Willard Reaves and NDP candidate Trudy Schroeder.
The date of the by-election has not been announced, but must take place by March 29.
