A 19-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged in connection with a Christmas morning home invasion that left one person seriously injured.

Shortly after 3 a.m., police were called to a townhouse in the 1700 block of St. Mary’s Road. When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old man suffering from serious injuries after he was assaulted with an edged-weapon during the home invasion.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable.

Police said the suspect ran off before they got there. However, officers said they were able to locate and arrest him during an “unrelated incident” nearby.

Jonathon Yetman-Levasseur, 19, has been charged with possessing a weapon, breaking-and-entering, aggravated assault and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.

Yetman-Levasseur remains in custody. The charges haven’t been tested in court.
