The fatal stabbing in broad daylight of a man in Winnipeg remains unsolved, but police hope new information will lead to an arrest in the case.
Ken Catcheway was doing carpentry work inside a home on Gallagher Avenue in the Weston area around 11 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2009 when someone came inside to see him. The two then argued outside the home and Catcheway was stabbed, said police.
Catcheway ran down the street to a local grocery store where he collapsed. The suspect is believed to have run in the opposite direction.
Half a year later, police haven't made an arrest but the homicide unit says there are developments in the case.
"There have been people that have come forward with new information and because of that, we in the homicide unit believe this murder will be solved," says Det. Sgt. Darryl Kostiuk from the homicide unit.
Investigators won't say what the information is, just that people have knowledge that would help them catch the killer.
Catcheway's family, meanwhile, says life hasn't gotten any easier since his death.
"My brother was a good man. He loved his daughter very much. My brother was just the kindest man I've ever known," says Fran Catcheway, Ken's sister.
Ken Catcheway was a former gang member, but police say they don't know if that had anything to do with his murder.
At the time of his death, Catcheway was in a work program and was turning his life around, say family members. Now, they hope someone comes forward to help solve his murder.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the case to call the homicide unit at 986-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
