Hundreds of brave Winnipeggers braved the frigid temperatures at the first annual Polar Plunge on Saturday.

The event brings members of law enforcement agencies around Manitoba to dive into freezing cold water as a fundraiser for those with intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics Manitoba. 120 people jumped, and $25,000 was raised to help support the charity.

The event came about in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Mascots Copper from the Winnipeg Police Service and Buzz and Boomer of the Blue Bombers were there to cheer on the participants as they dove in.

Organizers plan to make the plunge an annual event.
