Dozens of members from Winnipeg's Ukrainian community held a car rally on Saturday. Cars decorated Ukrainian flags met at the Legislative Building to raise awareness about political changes happening in the country.

In the last few months the Ukrainian government has curled back laws relating to journalistic freedom and the rights of protesters. Organizers say they are standing in solidarity with their friends and family back in Ukraine.

"To show people in Ukraine that, first of all, we don't leave and we are with them, trying to support them," Andrii Shcherbukha.

The rally went down Main Street, making it's way to St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on Burrows Avenue.

Organizers ask Canadians to sign a petition to Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Prime Minister Stephen Harper that would put sanctions on Ukraine.
