A crash involving eight vehicles shut the westbound Perimeter Highway near the Red River Bridge for hours Saturday afternoon.

Eight vehicles were smashed in the crash, including one semi-truck. One SUV tipped onto its side at the edge of the bridge, threatening to topple into the ditch.

Emergency crews and ambulances rushed to the scene just after 11 a.m. and secured the SUV with cables to prevent it from rolling further.

RCMP said one person was taken to hospital, but no one was seriously injured in the crash.

The crash forced RCMP to close a portion of the westbound Perimeter Highway between Pembina Highway and St. Mary’s Road for several hours.
