Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for parts of Manitoba, Ontario
A disturbance approaching from the west has triggered a severe thunderstorm watch for a portion of Manitoba.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the watch Monday for a swatch of the southeast including Falcon Lake, Pointe du Bois, Lac Du Bonnet, Piney and West Hawk Lake.
In Ontario, Kenora, Dryden and Fort Frances are also under severe thunderstorm watches.
Meantime, Shoal Lake Reserves was under a severe thunderstorm warning late Monday afternoon.
The weather agency said a trough of low pressure currently moving through the south will combine with a humid, unstable air mass to create conditions that lend to thunderstorms.
Some of these thunderstorms may become severe, ECCC said, with the primary threats being large hail, strong wind gusts and torrential downpours.
Storms are expected to form by late afternoon and move into northwestern Ontario by early Monday night.
The public is asked to monitor alerts and forecasts as the system develops.
