Finally! After a stretch of weeks without any meaningful precipitation, it's raining in Winnipeg.
A low pressure trough is moving across southern Manitoba that has been triggering thunderstorms today. But the threat that they could become severe has greatly diminished. This is, in part, because of the type of cloud that's moved into the region that's keeping temperatures relatively cool.
There is still the risk of severe thunderstoms this afternoon in southeast areas closest to the provincial border and in northwestern Ontario. This includes Red Lake which has been battling forest fires in the region.
Rain and thunderstorms will be scattered across the north today, too. Western areas will see clearing later this afternoon while showers or thunderstorms will conitnue overnight in some easterns regions.
Friday will be cloudy again in Winnipeg. An afternoon shower isn't outside the realm of possibility.
Then conditions clear nicely in time for the sunny weekend ahead.
