The St. John’s Library is getting a modern face lift to accommodate today’s users and future generations.
The library, located at 500 Salter Street, will close Friday, Aug. 25 at 5pm and is expected to open approximately one year later in the fall of 2018.
The city said the library was originally built in 1915 and has served the city for over a century. New renovations will include updated adult, children’s and teen areas on the main floor, as well as updates to the computer area and study spaces.
The city plans to add an extension to the building that will include an open reading area with an accessible entrance and washrooms.
During the closure, the city said St. John’s Library customers will be sent to West Kildonan Library at 365 Jefferson Avenue unless customers have been told otherwise.
The city also said book return at the St. John’s library will be closed during renovations but items can be returned to any other Winnipeg Public Library branch.
