While Winnipeggers bask in the warmth of an unseasonably warm day, much of the north is still covered by snowfall warnings Saturday.

The warnings stretch across the province from east to west, and as far south as The Pas, Norway House and Cross Lake, to as far north as Thompson and Shamattawa.

Environment Canada expects between 10 and 20 centimetres to fall on those areas by this evening.

A low pressure system in Saskatchewan spread heavy snow across the northern part of the province overnight. Many areas received around 10 centimetres overnight, with a further 5 to 10 centimetres expected Saturday.

The picture looks very different across southern Manitoba. The high is expected to hit 15 Celsius in many communities including Winnipeg, well above the normal of 10 Celsius.

In Winnipeg, clouds in the morning will clear by the afternoon, and the wind will pick up to about 30 kilometres per hour, becoming light in the afternoon.

On Sunday, the rain returns early in the afternoon, but the high temperatures will hang around for a couple of days.
