Winnipeg man charged with sexual exploitation of youth: police

A 49-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged following an investigation into alleged sexual assaults of a young girl.

Police began their investigation in September and learned a young woman met a man over social media in December 2023. They allege she was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions by the man during several meetings.

The suspect turned himself in and was arrested on Dec. 22.

Michele Buttari has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 years of age, and luring a person under 16 by means of telecommunication.

Buttari was detained in custody. None of the charges against him have been proven in court.
