The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) made three arrests over the weekend in connection to two separate incidents involving stolen cars.

The first incident began around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday when officers saw a speeding car in the area of King Street and Flora Avenue.

With the help of the Air1 police helicopter, officers saw the car heading west on Logan and then enter a parkade at a casino on McPhillips.

After a short foot chase, police took two people into custody. The vehicle was confirmed stolen.

The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old Winnipeg man, has been charged with several offences including dangerous operation of a conveyance and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 24-year-old woman is facing a breach related to a curfew condition.

Both suspects are in custody.

The second, unrelated incident began around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday when a suspect driving a Ford F350 truck with a Saskatchewan licence plate went to a dealership in the 3900 block of Portage Avenue. According to police, the suspect got out the truck, broke into a construction trailer and then left the site.

Security saw the break-in and contacted police.

From there, the WPS found the truck in a parking lot west of Portage Avenue and attempted to stop the driver.

Police allege the suspect refused to stop, fled the scene and subsequently rammed into a police cruiser. Officers said the driver continued to flee, crossing into oncoming traffic and ramming a second police car before he was stopped. Nobody was hurt during these collisions.

The vehicle was confirmed stolen from Moose Jaw, Sask, on Dec. 31.

A 25-year-old man from Saskatchewan was taken into custody and faces a slew of offences including three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon. He is in custody.
