Thousands across Canada walked 5 km in support of Kids Help Phone, Sunday. Around 300 of them walked in Winnipeg.
Holy Klos, the manager of community fundraising with Kids Help Phone, said this year’s attendance is more than previous years.
She said $66,000 was raised at the Winnipeg event this year.
“We are so incredibly grateful and thrilled with the support,” she said.
Everyday heroes walked side-by-side in the Walk so Kids Can Talk by BMO to ensure professional counsellors will always be available to listen when kids need help.
Klos said the organization is going on 27 years of existence and this nationwide walk has been happening for 15 years.
“With this national walk, as well as our donors, that’s what keeps our counsellors on the lines for the kids,” said Klos.
People walked solo, in teams, with family, friends and co-workers to show their support.
Kids between the ages of 5-20 can turn to Kids Help Phone for confidential, anonymous counselling in both French and English.
“Kids Help Phone is there for kids, every day of the year, every minute of the day. The only way we can keep our lines open for these kids are for donations and events like this,” said Klos.
CTV Winnipeg’s Colleen Bready was the MC for this year’s event.
