Butterfly lovers are invited to get up close and personal with the winged insects at the Assiniboine Park Zoo this weekend.

The zoo is hosting the Butterfly Safari Weekend, running Friday to Sunday at the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden.

“The Butterfly Safari is a great opportunity for visitors of all ages to engage with butterflies and learn about them in a whole new way,” said Janice Martin, Assiniboine Park Zoo curator.

Visitors are invited to take part in a range of activities throughout the weekend, including butterfly safari keeper talks at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., sessions with the zoo’s master gardeners at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and a butterfly craft station.

The zoo’s polar bear mascot Winston will also be at the safari from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

More details can be found on the zoo’s website.
