A Winnipeg couple’s dog is safe at home after being set loose during a break-in at their Wolseley home.

Chris and Kristy Devantier’s home was broken into Wednesday morning. Numerous items were stolen and the home was damaged, as well.

Chris said their rescue dog Callie was found Friday afternoon thanks to a tip from someone who saw their story on the news. Callie was spotted along the riverbank near Wellington Crescent.

Chris and Kristy, along with friends and family, set out for the area. At first, Callie was too skittish to come to them.

“It probably took us five or six hours,” Chris said by phone Friday. “Eventually she was calm and my wife managed to coax her out.”

Chris said Callie had a pretty serious cut on one of her legs and was walking carefully. The couple is taking Callie to the vet for a full check-up.

“Really we just are happy we got the word out, and thank everyone who helped look for her,” Chris said.
