RCMP and fire crews responded Tuesday to a blaze that destroyed a home in the village of Binscarth.

Crews responded around 4 p.m. to the fire in the community, about 165 km southwest of Dauphin.

No one was in the house at the time and there were no injuries, said RCMP.

During the fire, a school one block away was evacuated and all afterschool activities were cancelled as a result of the strong north winds.

Houses neighbouring the engulfed home were also evacuated. Residents were allowed back once the fire was brought under control around 6:30 p.m. on May 5.

No other properties sustained any damage and the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious, said RCMP.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is assisting with the investigation.
