Mayor Brian Bowman says he envisions a Winnipeg in four years where homeowners are free from property taxes.

During his first State of the City speech, Bowman outlined his idea of what Winnipeg would look like in the near future.

He said property taxes are regressive, and reiterated his wish for a new taxation model. Bowman said that could include a municipal sales tax or some form of income tax.

The problem with the Mayor's vision, it needs provincial approval.

More than 1,100 people attended the State of the City address held at the RBC Convention Centre.
