The brother of John Ostamas, a suspect facing charges for the killings of three homeless men in Winnipeg, spoke out on Tuesday.

John Ostamas grew up on a First Nation near Thunder Bay, Ont.

His brother Richard Ostamas said John has no family in Winnipeg.

Richard Ostamas said he had concerns about John’s mental stability.

John’s Facebook page shows the man charged with killing three people had no trouble sharing his thoughts about life and things he liked, including songs that talk about murder.

The accused posted his thoughts and pictures of himself every day, including the day after he's accused of killing two men in downtown Winnipeg.

That post in part said, "beautiful out there this morning it was a blast anyways i be chillin like always blood in blood out!"

Richard said he knows his brother needed help and told him that when he saw him last.

"I was always worried about him doing something bad or someone doing something bad to him," said Richard.

Richard said John was always sick as child and moved around many times as an adult and mostly lived in Ontario.

Richard said his family was shocked to learn what John is accused of and feels bad for him but also the families affected by the crimes he's accused of.

"I don't know what to say right now, just that I'm his brother and cared for him. I wish things didn't turn out the way they did," said Richard.

Many fellow street people who knew him do too and are shocked to learn of what he's accused of and the friends they lost.

"He was shy he was cautious what he does," said Edward Marks.

"For the past few days most of my friends, I could see them with tears in their eyes," added Kirby Boucher.

Richard Ostamas said his brother didn't have any family in Winnipeg and that he lived in the city by himself.

The family has confirmed John Ostamas has previously lived in Thunder Bay, Toronto, Mississauga and New York.
