A Winnipeg woman whose family owns two cottages along the east shore of Caddy Lake is watching nervously as a wildfire continues to burn in the Whiteshell.
People in about 50 cottages and homes were given an evacuation notice Monday morning due to concerns the fire is getting closer to cabins in the area.
Onalee Ames drove to the Whiteshell from Winnipeg on Monday morning, and found out the area along the east shore of Caddy Lake was evacuated due to the fire.
"It's bad here," Ames said. "It's getting worse."
From a vantage point along the west shore of Caddy Lake, Ames said she saw water bombers making rounds in the area, dropping water on the wildfire burning northeast of Caddy Lake.
"It looks completely out of control," Ames said. "It spans a huge area."
Anticipating the evacuation notice, Ames said her mom visited her family's cottages Sunday night to get a few things from inside.
