The Winnipeg Police Service is planning a ceremony, as it permanently vacates the Public Safety Building.

On July 5 the flag will be lowered at the PSB, as a parade lead by Chief Devon Clunis makes its way to the new downtown headquarters for a ribbon cutting event.

The public is invited to the celebration, starting at 9 a.m., which will include a pipe band and historic vehicles.

The new headquarters has been a lightning rod of controversy. Construction of the new building is the subject of two audits and an RCMP investigation, as cost overruns soared to more than $75 million.

The PSB is set for demolition.
