Police laid several charges against an 18-year-old man in an early-morning crash involving a stolen truck that sent the driver to hospital on Saturday.

A truck slammed into a tree just after 8:00 a.m. on Crystal Avenue off St. Anne's Road. Police said the vehicle involved was stolen.

Officers in the area tried to stop the truck, but the driver refused, police said. When the officers checked their computer database, they discovered the truck was reported stolen on Dec. 20.

The officers tried to pursue but broke off the chase because of the unsafe driving of the suspect, police said. Shortly after, the driver lost control and crashed in the 100 block of Crystal Avenue, hitting the tree.

The driver ran and police chased after him. The suspect eventually turned on the officers, who tried unsuccessfully to Taser him.

The officers were eventually able to subdue the victim, who was taken to hospital in unstable condition due to injuries he suffered in the crash.

The suspect faces several charges, including impaired driving, dangerous operation, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
