A plan to expropriate the Taylor Avenue fire hall property cleared the first hurdle at city hall on Tuesday.

The city's property and development committee voted for expropriation after negotiations with Shindico hit a stalemate.

The city and Shindico are a million dollars apart on a price.

The fire hall sits on land not owned by the city after a failed property swap with two old fire stations and a vacant piece of land.

The committee also agreed to sell two of those properties while it waits to hear more about two competing daycare bids for the third one, a former hall on Grosvenor Avenue.
