People and businesses pulled together to make sure a memorial service for a well-known member of the community went on despite an overnight ammonia leak in Transcona.
A car being followed by police slammed into the back of the East End Arena. Police said the vehicle was fleeing after a "domestic incident."
It hit the building's ice plant, causing an ammonia leak.
A block around the arena was evacuated for a few hours.
That forced organizers to move a memorial service for 43-year-old hockey coach Brad Little to Club Regent Casino on Wednesday morning.
Local residents and businesses stepped up to replace food for the service where hundreds attended. Others offered funds and additional support.
Family members and friends said they were amazed and thankful for all the support.
Fire crews continue to air out the arena. Officials hope to reopen Thursday or Friday.
