Construction is underway on a new ten-bed health centre in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba.

The new $20.8 million centre will give families access to bilingual emergency and urgent care services, in-patient care diagnostic services and out-patient services.

The province made the announcement at an on-site sod turning Monday. Notre Dame de Lourdes is located approximately 125 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

The new facility is located beside the community’s primary health care centre and personal care home, whose patrons will be served by the new kitchen once open.

It will be the only fully bilingual acute care facility southwest of Winnipeg, partnering with Ste. Anne Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital to provide bilingual education for medical students from the University of Manitoba, University of Sherbrooke and the University of Ottawa.

The province said it expects construction to be completed spring 2016.
