A convenience store employee was stabbed during a robbery Friday evening.

Four suspects entered the business in the 800 block of Mountain Avenue while concealing their identities around 7:20 p.m., police said.

The suspects confronted staff and a 51-year-old man was stabbed, police said. They then stole lottery tickets, tobacco and cash.

A 62-year-old customer was also assaulted during the robbery.

"This is a family-owned business, maybe best defined as a mom and pop type convenience store,” said Winnipeg Police Const. Jason Michalyshen.

A woman working at the store Saturday told CTV News her husband is the man who was stabbed and said she witnessed the attack.

She said he was treated for his wounds and is now resting at home.

Winnipeg police said surveillance footage from the store will be part of the investigation.

CTV News visited half a dozen other convenience stores in the area and staff at each one shared stories of being robbed.

All were equipped with surveillance cameras but staff said the criminals usually wore masks.

Winnipeg police admit the description of the suspects in the latest case is limited because all four had their faces covered.

They are simply described as four men in their twenties.
