New developments unfolded on the sixth day since a Winnipeg teen disappeared.

Cooper Nemeth, 17, has been missing since the early morning of Feb. 14, after attending a party in the Valley Gardens area.

In that same Winnipeg neighbourhood on Friday, police officers were seen at a home on Treger Bay.

Authorities confirmed they were at the home as part of their investigation into the boy's disappearance and executed a search warrant.

While the case remains a missing person investigation, police said the resources of the homicide unit have been brought in to assist with the amount of information coming in.

People living in the community told CTV News the house has a bad reputation, adding there was a big fight there recently and police are often called to the residence.

A witness said people were removing items from the home on Friday afternoon.

Winnipeg police have not released any further details at this time.

The search continues

That same day, a small army of volunteers deployed across the city with the mission to help bring Nemeth home.

"If we can come out and hand out flyers, and go door to door, it’s the least we can do," said Candace Haasbeck, one of the volunteers involved in the search effort.

Search organizers are asking people to check their yards and sheds and to simply keep an eye out for the teen who stands six feet tall (183 cm) and weighs around 170 pounds (77 kg).

Among those helping in the search are members of the Bear Clan Patrol, a volunteer neighbourhood watch group who operate mainly in Winnipeg’s North End.

"We know where all the hidey holes are, and we're out there looking in every single one of them,” said James Favel with the Bear Clan Patrol. “We're going to keep doing that all weekend long.”

Winnipeg mayor Brian Bowman said the response from the community is heartwarming, and he hopes the hard work will continue.

"Everything that each of us can do to get the word out to hopefully bring him home safely is obviously what we're all hoping,” said Bowman.

Some fresh volunteers can't come soon enough, as Nemeth’s family and friends have been searching night and day since he vanished.

"I don't know how much more I can personally do this, every day,” Nemeth’s aunt, Laresa Sayles said.

”I definitely know Cooper's parents can't take much more of this. And neither can his grandparents. And so we're asking for some big momentum this weekend."

What to leave behind if you plan to search

For those keen on searching over the weekend, Nemeth’s family wants one piece of clothing to be left at home.

They're asking all current and former players of Nemeth’s hockey team, the River East Marauders, to leave their emblazoned team jackets at home.

Nemeth was last seen wearing his team jacket, with a River East Marauders hockey logo on the front, along with black pants and brown skater runners.

His family is worried people might mistake someone wearing the same jacket, as the 17-year-old.

It’s already happened once.

"There's lots of Mauraders’ jackets. I've talked to a lot of parents and they're wearing their kid’s old Marauders jackets,” explained volunteer, Corie Siddle.

“And a lot of (jackets) are donated; so we're not just asking hockey players. If anyone has picked up a jacket, at one of those used places, just put it away right now."

Anyone interested in joining the search can head to the Gateway Recreation Centre for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
