A children’s hockey trip turned violent in North Dakota, when parents and coaches from Manitoba fought in the dressing room.
The Selkirk Steelers and River East Royals travelled to Fargo to play in a tournament over the weekend.
A person with knowledge of the trip told CTV the game got violent early on, despite the players being only eight years old.
The person told CTV a mother with the River East Royals entered the dressing room after the game to question the coach. They say the mother was sworn at by two coaches, and pushed. CTV was told the woman’s husband then entered the dressing room to defend his wife, and a fight broke out.
Hockey Winnipeg says it is investigating the incident. Executive Director Monte Miller says the organization is speaking with the local associations involved in the altercation. He says Hockey Winnipeg will deal with the matter as quickly as possible.
Hockey Winnipeg also aims to have family members take a Respect in Sport course online.
