Winnipeg police responded to a report of a large snake found in the 200 block of Wellington Crescent on May 7.
Officers found a live snake in a dumpster. The snake was safely contained and animal services called.
City officials said the snake is a python.
Animal Services said it’s possible but unlikely that the snake slithered into the dumpster on its own. Instead, they believe someone put it in the dumpster.
“Was it disposed of? Did it get into the garbage of the owner and end up in the dumpster? We don’t know but we’ll investigate,” said Leland Gordon from Animals Services.
“If it was legitimately abandoned, we’ll work with the province to see if any charges will be laid,” said Gordon.
Anyone with information on how the snake got into the dumpster is asked to call 311.
