A Lorette man has been charged for his alleged involvement in a road rage incident during the morning drive Tuesday.

Around 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 29, Oakbank RCMP received a report of a road rage incident on the east Perimeter Highway near the RM of Springfield.

Police said the initial report described two northbound vehicles speeding excessively, each trying to pass the other, until one driver cut the other off.

According to RCMP, as both came to a stop near Highway 15, two males exited their vehicle and approached the male driver of the other. After a brief exchange, the man who was approached took out what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol and uttered threats at the two males.

The two immediately left the scene and called police.

Police said officers later found and arrested the man reported to have brandished the pistol. Further to a police investigation, members of the Oakbank RCMP seized the pistol; a Colt Defender .177 calibre air pistol.

"Engaging in a road rage incident not only puts you at risk, but also the other drivers sharing the same road," said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP in a news release Friday. "Serious driving offences should be reported to the police instead of having drivers getting involved in unpredictable situations."

Ryan James Groening, 25, from Lorette Manitoba faces firearm and threat charges.

Police said Groening has since been released from custody, and will make his first court appearance in Beausejour court on November 17.
