Manitoba is buying 60 new automated weather stations to improve its ability to predict floods, fight fires and better help farmers.
The government did not say how much the machines will cost.
Twenty of the stations are to be placed in areas at risk for forest fires and the other 40 stations will be located in agricultural areas.
The expansion of the weather station network was a recommendation from the 2011 Flood Review Task Force.
