United States border authorities have arrested a 58-year-old man from Manitoba for impaired driving, according to a release sent out Monday.

The incident happened at around 2:45 p.m. Aug. 11 when officers at the International Falls, Minn. border crossing spotted a blue Chevrolet pickup truck driving southbound in the northbound lane against oncoming traffic.

Officers said they followed the truck until the driver eventually stopped about half a mile south of the port of entry in downtown International Falls. The man was then arrested for driving under the influence. Authorities said he is from Benyks Point, Man.

Officers said they also seized the truck and assessed a fine for failing to stop for inspection.

Travelers who engage in “port running” can face both civil and criminal penalties, including up to a $10,000 fine, the release said.
