A Winnipeg football team was back in action Friday night to finish a season some feared would end early.

The North Winnipeg Nomads midget squad, on their home field, took on Transcona.

The teens' season almost ended this week when its board removed the entire coaching staff.

Consequences after a player pushed a referee to the ground last Friday.

At a special meeting Tuesday evening, passionate parents helped convince the board to let the team play.

"Their second chance is what we're calling it, and they are very disciplined,” said Denise Borys. “We're here to show everyone that it was the best decision."

"It's the proper decision,” Brad Borys. “You can't punish the whole team for one player, right? And you have to let the team play to finish off the season."

The Nomads’ president stepped in as interim head coach. Football Manitoba continues to review the shoving incident and the player remains suspended.
