Winnipeg police are investigating a homicide after they were called to a bloody scene at a St. James apartment building Friday night.

At 9:11 p.m., they received reports of several injuries at The Capri at 2130 Portage Ave. Police say three people went to hospital with significant injuries. two in stable condition and one in critical condition.

Paramedics sent a 39-year-old man with upper body injuries to hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries. A 32-year-old woman and 42-year-old male also went to hospital in stable condition.

A man who lives in the same building told CTV he saw a woman with a pair of scissors. He says police later put her in handcuffs.

Police believe the incident happened inside the building, then moved outside.

A pool of blood and bloody handprints were visible at the front entrance, and yellow police tape surrounded the building.

Police have taken in 12 people for questioning, with three potential suspects and several witnesses. They remained on the scene late Friday evening to determine what had happened.

Police have not confirmed a weapon and have not confirmed any arrests. They are not relasing the name of the deceased at this time.

This is the city's 23rd homicide.
