Tuesday was supposed to be a day off for one Winnipeg couple, but instead of staying home they volunteered to help those stuck in the snow,

Skylar, 24, and his girlfriend Teegan grabbed their snow shovels, jumped into their truck and hit Winnipeg streets.

"I started pulling people out,” Skylar said. “The first person I helped was at like 11 a.m."

The two spent most the day driving around looking for people stuck in the snow. Once they found someone who needed help, they dug, pushed, and sometimes pulled them out.

"Once people stop they get stuck, and then people behind them get stuck," Skylar said.

William Zarqo and his 10 year-old son were stuck at a roundabout near Kenaston Boulevard for two hours, before Skylar and Teegan showed up to pull their vehicle free.

"I was just dreaming for someone to give me a hand," Zarqo said.

He was so thankful he invited the couple to his home.

"You have to come visit me, this way I can thank you," Zarqo said to Skylar and Teegan.

In 10 hours on the road, the couple said it helped 16 cars out of the snow, before heading back home for the night.

"Most people are just super happy, they're going somewhere and they got to get there,” Skylar said.

“It costs $100 to get towed out, so if they can save 100 bucks they should be happy."

With a day off again Wednesday and more snow in the forecast, he said they might just head out again, with shovels in hand.
