Driving through Winnipeg’s east end will get a little more tricky when the city closes down Plessis Road on Sunday. The stretch between Dugald Road and Kernaghan Avenue is being closed for more than a year while construction crews build an underpass at the rail tracks.
The road will be closed staring Sunday until December, 2014.
There had been talk of keeping it open by building a temporary access road, but the city rejected that idea, saying it would have delayed the project by more than a year-and-a-half and cost an extra $7 million to $10 million.
The $77 million project includes funding from all three levels of government.
