Winnipeg police have charged two girls with public mischief after prank calling 911 up to 60 times.

WPS said the calls, which were made between July 26 and Aug. 23, described fights and assaults at a residence in the downtown area and also threatened police.

Each emergency call was determined to be unfounded, police said. Responding officers were unable to determine who was responsible for the calls and the police were not able to track down the phone the calls were being made from.

On Aug. 24, WPS said at 11:30 a.m. they received a 911 call from the same number claiming a fight occurred and a woman had been stabbed at the same address. Responding officers determined the call was unfounded and no such event had occurred.

While at the residence, officers had located the cell phone used to make the 911 call. Police said as they were arresting one suspect, one officer was allegedly assaulted by a second suspect.

WPS has charged a 15-year-old female with public mischief.

They also charged a 12-year-old female with assaulting a peace officer, uttering threats and public mischief. She remains in police custody.
