A female student at a Manitoba law enforcement academy is among those who registered a complaint against police last year.

The student alleges she was in a common room in a police office, waiting to go on a ride-along provided by the town police service. She said an officer picked up an unsecured Taser from a table, commented it wasn’t live’ and pointed it at the woman.

She alleges the Taser fired and discharged its probes, striking her in the left thigh and groin area.

She fell ill shortly after and had to receive treatment in hospital.

After an external investigation, the officer was charged and convicted of assault.
