A drug used to treat cystic fibrosis is one of 127 new medications now covered under Manitoba's Pharmacare Program.

Kalydeco helps treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis.

Other drugs added to Manitoba's Pharmacare list include those used to treat illnesses and conditions such as schizophrenia, lung cancer and diabetes.

Coverage for Kalydeco and the other new medications begins Oct. 16.

A number of devices used to treat diabetes will also be covered. They include certain types of needles, syringes, lancets and test strips.

More information on Pharmacare is available on the province's website and a list of the new medications covered is available as a PDF file.
