The Manitoba government has introduced a funding strategy to help strengthen the digital media industry.

The plan, announced Monday at Sisler High School, will allow for a refundable corporate tax credit for companies in the industry to offset costs, such as wages for Manitoba workers.

This will eliminate a two-year limit and $500,000 maximum for eligible projects, according to the province.

It is an incentive the government wants to give for students looking for work in the industry.

“To give jobs, to provide jobs for our students, in the future, this means everything to our students,” said Jamie Leduc with the Sisler business and technology department. “That idea that you can come back and work here and set up shop, or not even leave the province just start your own company up.”

Finance Minister Cameron Friesen said Budget 2016 will lead to lower taxes, better services and a stronger economy.
