Roughly 400 people in the domestic flights were forced to go back through security to be rescreened.
It took about an hour to get all passengers through security again.
Breanne Talbot, manager with the Winnipeg Airport Authority, said passengers were directed to exit the departures hall and be rescreened through security due to a security breach in the domestic and international departures.
Once all the passengers were returned to the pre-flight screening area, a security sweep of the departure area was conducted.
Ken Putt, a passenger travelling to Toronto, said Mounties were inside the security area checking over people.
"I would say at least 20. All with their armour and well-armed. No carbines, but side arms and body armour," said Putt.
The line-up for security extended the full length of the departures area.
There are only a few delays listed on the airport’s site which could still mean there is a possibility of passengers missing their connections.
The airport authority has urged individuals to check their website for scheduled departure flight times.
Details of the breach are unavailable at the moment.
