A total of 22 McDonald’s restaurants in Manitoba have already been charging the increased 8% GST that is not supposed to be in effect until July 1.
CTV News made several drive-thru purchases at the Pembina Highway and Grant Avenue location in Winnipeg and each time was charged 8% PST instead of the current 7% rate in effect in the province until July 1.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s Canada said a computer error is to blame for the mistake and they are currently working on a fix for the problem.
In the meantime, McDonald’s says any customers who have been over-charged will be refunded the difference if they return to the restaurant with a receipt.
They said the error was isolated to Thursday, June 20.
