The Western Hockey League Board of Governors has approved a new playoff format.
The WHL will model its post-season after the NHL.
The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs.
The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed teams in each conference.
The lowest wild card team will meet the division winner with the most regular season points in their conference.
