City Hall is telling Winnipeg Transit users to make other arrangements for getting around. The transit union has rejected the city's final contract offer, putting them in a strike position.

Close to 1000 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union cast ballots Wednesday.

Local president Keith Scott tells CTV News more than 60 percent of its members rejected the offer.

Starting Friday morning bus drivers will stop working overtime -- and that means some buses won't be running.

The union says they want the city to increase wages and improve working conditions. They also want to work fewer hours on Sundays -- which has traditionally been a reduced work day.

The city says refusing the overtime will mean 15 to 20 buses won't be running Friday morning.

As for the possibility of an all out strike, the city says it's too early to speculate. Both sides are still willing to talk - although the city says this is the closest they've been to strike since one actually happened in 1976.

The union members have been without a contract since January.
