An online campaign to support a paralyzed Manitoba hockey player has come to a close.

The GoFundMe page in support of Braden Pettinger started mid-November. Pettinger, 19,was paralyzed after crashing head-first into the boards during a hockey game.

BrydenHutlet, a referee in the league Pettinger plays, organized the campaign to help cover costs for the family.

The campaign originally set the goal at $700, which it surpassed in a matter of hours. Now, after hundreds of people donated, the campaign has raised more than $150,000.

"It's just very emotional and moving to see the support that Braden has gotten,” said Hutlet. “Everyone wishes them all the best.

“And like I told the family, even though this campaign is ending, we just want them to know they're still in our thoughts when we step out on the ice to go play a hockey game."

Pettinger's family has received support from various campaigns and events.

A group in Souris planned a social for Saturday night. People can also donate to the Pettinger family in-person at any Westoba Credit Union.
