A proposed dermatology clinic that's divided the River Heights community has been approved by the city's property and development committee.

This comes after a mountain of community opposition to the project convinced a lower committee to reject the plan.

Several area residents and businesses oppose the clinic over traffic concerns as the clinic will see, on average, 70 patients daily on Academy Road.

They also say the size of the two-storey building does not fit with the character of the neighbourhood.

But the doctor proposing the clinic says those patients will be scattered throughout the day and he has hundreds of people, including some from the immediate area, supporting the project.
