The City of Winnipeg hopes a new initiative to clear traffic congestion will have drivers seeing green, not red, during their daily commute.
Near the end of 2016, Winnipeg will have a Transportation Management Centre.
The centre will adjust the timing of traffic lights during rush hour and when unplanned events like car accidents occur to clear intersections as soon as possible.
Drivers will also be alerted through social media and electronic message boards about trouble spots so they can avoid those streets.
The new measure was announced in this week's city budget.
The TMC will cost $3 million to start up and $3.5 million to run it and maintain all traffic signals each year.
