Emergency crews were called to the Smooth Freight Ltd. location on Milner Street in Winnipeg just after 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 29.
A forklift operator accidentally punctured a chemical barrel which contained sodium bisulfite, a cleaner and preservative, said officials.
Neighbouring businesses were advised to keep employees inside.
Close to 175 gallons leaked out before emergency crews were able to stop it.
Sawdust was used to absorb and contain the liquid.
No injuries were reported.
